Podcast SummaryIn the beginning, there was Jack, and Jack had a groove.
"Let there be house!" and house music was born. I am, you see,
You see, house is a feeling that no one can understand really unless
Who is Jack, and what is it that Jack does? Jack is the one who gives you the power to jack your body!
You may be black, you may be white; you may be Jew or Gentile.
And this is fresh! Lyrics for Can you Feel it? by Mr. Fingers.
About Victor FLThe London dance music scene will always digest the comings and goings of DJs, producers and party-throwers, all plying their trade with sounds and images to dazzle the senses. Some, like VictoR fL (aka Victor de la Serna), exude an addictive quality to their wares – an attribute that only comes with deep knowledge of dub plates, an enhanced skill-set on the decks, dedication to the art of original track production and consistent promotion at a variety of venues. When he first began, all those years ago in Huesca, Spain, Victor’s sets were peppered with hip-hop, Latin music and pop-rock. Tastes change, however. Soon he was dipping more into house and big beat, the foundation ingredients for his present-day mixes and sonic creations. Before he came to London permanently in 1999, Victor held weekly residencies and a weekly radio program in his home country, his versatility as a DJ becoming more apparent. Such credentials are useful when looking to play some house music for the masses in the city that still leads the way in club culture. Victor arrived in London to get an education in sound-engineering and music technology, whilst easing his DJ style onto the capital’s dance floors. His array of bouncy, dirty-ish techno, backed by vocal house and breaks, comfortably attached Victor to a host of venues in London. From the intimate bars and clubs of the emerging Old Street to such powerhouse stages of clubbing excellence as Pacha and The Key, he gradually became synonymous with a fresh, and frankly jacking, brand of house music. More recently this has not solely been reflected in Victor’s DJ schedule, but in his production technique. Collaborations with long-time friends and fellow DJs Coxswain and Jay Moreno has allowed for the development and release of material on the Senssual and Cx recording labels. Embracing more refined music production tools and the creation of an online jukebox to promote himself have added to Victor’s strengths as a dance musician. And affirmed the pleasure the masses experience from his sets – last year saw Victor take up a regular Friday, 3-decks plus effects mix at Space in somewhere called Ibiza. By Johnny E. Followers
